The men’s and women’s programs will both be playing on their home turf Saturday, Oct. 21 to kick off the fall rugby slate — both programs riding high after successful 2023 spring seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cal Poly’s home field can be found at E Creek Rd, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405 on Cal Poly’s campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Women start with tough test<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women match up against California Berkeley at 5 p.m. on the Lower Sports Complex Fields. It’s trial by fire for the Mustangs. Cal’s program competes in Division I’s Pacific Mountain Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last season the Bears’ run came to an end in the Division I playoff quarterfinal rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mustangs, too, ended their season in the playoffs. Cal Poly lost to Sacramento State in the West Coast Rugby Conference playoffs at San Jose State in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men kick off with three sides in 10s tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six teams — some of them featuring multiple sides — converge on San Luis Obispo tomorrow for the Cal Poly 10s tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those unfamiliar, each team will only have 10 players per side during these shortened matches. Typically, teams have 15 players on the field. The matches will be played on two separate fields on Cal Poly Lowers Sports Complex’s grass fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cal Poly will have three separate teams playing tomorrow, a testament to the program’s strong ability to draw in quality depth. (The teams on the official schedule are labeled Cal Poly 1, Cal Poly 2, and Cal Poly 3.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
